Ex-drug convict shot dead in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY —- A former drug convict was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in Candelaria town in Quezon province on Thursday, police said Friday.

Candelaria police reported that tricycle driver Alfredo Maranan, 44, was repeatedly shot by the suspect using a .45-caliber pistol in different parts of his body while standing on the roadside in Barangay Sta. Catalina Sur around 5:30 pm.

The victim was taken to Candelaria District Hospital but died along the way.

Police said the victim was previously arrested on drug charges but was released on a plea bargaining agreement with the court.
