THE Department of Health on Monday warned that cases of Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) could surge in evacuation centers.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the respiratory disease could spread in crowded areas especially if health protocols such as wearing of masks and physical distancing are not followed.

This is the reason, she added, that the DoH ordered the appointment of safety officers in evacuation areas.

“Pag mayroon silang ma-monitor na may sakit, tatanggalin nila agad para hindi na makapanghawa pa (If someone gets sick, they would isolate that person so that he or she will not infect anyone),” Vergeire told reporters in a media forum.

Despite these issues, the country’s Covid-19 reproductive rate remains below 1, while the number of cases has stabilized to less than 2,000 cases per day in the past few weeks.

The country’s hospital care rate is below 30 percent and no region has reached the critical zone or above 70 percent hospital capacity.
