Magnitude 6.4 quake rocks Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake rocked San Agustin, Surigao del Sur on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum said the quake happened at 6:37 a.m.

Its epicenter was located 11 kilometers northwest of San Agustin in Surigao del Sur. The quake, tectonic in origin, had a depth of 58 kilometers.

The Phivolcs chief said damage and aftershocks are expected.

“But this would not cause a tsunami,” he said.
