Ex-Cebu Gov. Lito Osmeña dies at 83

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines — Former Cebu Gov. Emilio “Lito” Osmea, who was credited for Cebu’s economic boom in the 1990s, died about 6 p.m. on Monday, July 19. He was 83.

Osmea’s death was confirmed by his son, Mimo, in a text message to Inquirer.

He declined to provide details, saying his family would issue a statement soon.

His nephew, Cebu City Councilor Renato “Junjun” Osmea Jr., also confirmed his death in a Facebook post.

“Rest in Peace uncle Lito Osmea. Thank you for all the wisdom you taught me, not just in politics, but in life in general,” the councilor said.
