Veteran bigman Billy Mamaril leaves San Miguel

MANILA, Philippines—Veteran Billy Mamaril has left San Miguel after spending three years with the club, team manager Gee Abanilla bared Wednesday.
The 40-year-old spent much of his time on the bench during his years with the Beermen playing behind June Mar Fajardo, Arwind Santos, Moala Tautuaa, and Christian Standhardinger, when he was still with San Miguel.
Abanilla said the team could not give Mamaril another contract as the 6-foot-6 big man is set on pursuing a career in nursing.
“We can’t offer him another contract and he’s toward the end of his nursing course I think,” said Abanilla Wednesday.
Although Mamaril is not officially retired, he is an unrestricted free agent.
