US may be included in travel ban 

THE government may also ban flights from the United States once reports that the coronavirus variant had been detected there are officially confirmed, the Department of Health said.

The Philippines has banned travel from 20 countries where cases of the coronavirus variant have been reported.

On Tuesday, Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced that a man in Denver tested positive for the B1.1.17 variant of the virus that was first discovered in the United Kingdom.

The man had no travel history outside of the US.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said they will wait for the US to officially notify the World Health Organization’s International Health Regulation body or an official announcement by the US Government regarding before the Philippines updates its travel ban list.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said that the travel ban list can be expanded once there are confirmed cases of the virus variant in other countries.

“Once there are countries that report the UK variant, then we will expand this,” Duque said.
