MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker is calling on the Department of Health (DOH) and the various local government units (LGUs) to consider giving volunteer vaccinators a daily allowance of at least P1,000.
Anakalusugan Partylist Rep. Mike Defensor said many of the volunteer nurses are unemployed or waiting to be deployed abroad, while most doctor-volunteers are new practitioners who are still struggling and building their careers.
The P1,000 daily allowance is nearly equivalent to the salary of a government nurse, which is about P33,000 a month, said Defensor.
