The Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors bounced back from their opening-day loss in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, defeating the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters in straight sets, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21, on Monday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Banking on their height advantage as well as experience and depth, the Lady Realtors booked the victory which gave them a 1-1 record in the young PVL season.
Sta. Lucia had their way in the first two sets. It was, however, challenged by PLDT late in the third set but still held tough to complete the shutout.
MJ Phillips paced the Lady Realtors in the win with 14 points, followed by Deli Palomata with 12, Mika Reyes 11, and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas 10.
For PLDT, it was Isa Molde who top-scored with 11 points. Eli Soyud and Jorelle Singh each had nine.
With the loss, the Power Hitters dropped to 0-2.
Sta. Lucia next plays on Wednesday against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers at 3 p.m. while PLDT takes on the Cignal HD Spikers at 6 p.m. on the same day.
PERLAS MATCHES POSTPONED
Meanwhile, all matches of the Perlas Pilipinas Spikers in the Open Conference have been postponed after a member of the team’s delegation tested positive for COVID-19.
As part of the health and safety protocols in accordance with the guidelines set by the Games and Amusements Board, the league decided not to let the Spikers take the floor for now until tests cleared them.
“Pending the results (of the tests), the scheduled games of Perlas have been postponed,” said Ricky Palou, president of the organizing Sports Vision Management Group, Inc.
The league said the positive individual has been moved to an isolation facility while the rest of the team are quarantined in their respective rooms. They are set for another RT-PCR testing this week.
