POEA suspends license of abandoned seafarers’ manning agency

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has suspended the license of the manning agency of around 10 Filipino seafarers who were reportedly abandoned in Fiji by their shipping company for their refusal to hand over their passports.

POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said they checked if the Able Maritime Manning Agency was ready to provide significant reports to help the seafarers who were deployed in February last year. He said authorities found that the manning agency failed to properly monitor the stranded workers.
