PNP dismisses cop who extorted money from police applicants

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has dismissed from service a police officer for grave misconduct after allegedly demanding money from police applicants in order to prioritize them in getting into the police force.

Eleazar said the dismissal of Police Staff Sergeant Joel Zalun Bunagan, ambulance driver of the PNP Health Service, took effect on Monday.

“Tuluyan na nating tinanggal sa serbisyo itong si Bunagan. Sinabi ko naman sa inyo na walang puwang sa PNP ang mga pulis na sangkot sa iligal na gawain,” he said in a statement.
