PHILIPPINE visa applications rose 20% in January-August 2026 from a year earlier as more Filipinos explore destinations overseas, according to visa outsourcing and technology firm VFS Global.

“The continued rise in visa applications from the Philippines highlights growing confidence among Filipino travelers and a strong desire to explore opportunities abroad,” VFS Global Regional Head for North Asia Atul Lall said in a statement on Monday.

“The sustained growth we have witnessed during the first eight months of 2026 reflects this positive trend, and we anticipate healthy demand across key destinations for the rest of the year,” he added.

The firm’s data showed a 28% increase in applications for non-Schengen countries, with Australia, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom as top destinations.

Meanwhile, demand for Schengen countries remains stable, with Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland among the most popular spots for Filipino tourists.

VFS Global also reported a 58% year-on-year growth in its Visa At Your Doorstep services, as more applicants chose to process their visas in their preferred location.

The premium services cover application submission, biometrics enrollment, and couriering passports back to a location of their choice.

With the rising visa application demand, the VFS Global official warned against fraudulent actors who may take advantage of the situation.

“We also urge travelers to stay cautious and rely only on official channels for visa-related information and services.”
