WHEN the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta resumes its National Collegiate Athletic Association campaign it will have a new men’s basketball coach in Mike Saguiguit.

In an announcement on Wednesday, the Las Pinas-based school said Mr. Saguiguit will take over coaching duties for the Altas team in a full-time capacity after serving on an interim basis following erstwhile coach Frankie Lim’s resignation in September.

“He’s now the coach starting Dec. 1,” said Anton Tamayo, the school board’s liaison officer in charge of the athletic program, in a statement.

While the interim coach of the Altas, Mr. Saguiguit, 46, was also the coach of Perpetual Help’s high school basketball team.

Upon being named full-time seniors coach, he turned over the juniors duty to one of his deputies, Joph Cleofas.

With the Altas, Mr. Saguiguit will work with the likes of Mario Barasi, Jr., skipper Jielo Razon, Ben Adamos, and Tonton Peralta in trying to get Perpetual Help back to the Final Four after missing it last season, where they finished with a 5-13 record and good for seventh place in the 10-team field. — Michael Angelo S.
