Pangilinan urges Comelec to review rules on deactivating voter records

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Francis Pangilinan said Thursday that there may be a need to review the rules of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) regarding the deactivation of voter registration records, citing the seven million registration records that were deactivated by the agency for the 2022 polls.

During a hearing of the Senate committee on electoral reforms, Comelec Deputy Executive Director for Operations Teopisto Elnas said the commission has deactivated the records of seven million voters, most of whom have failed to participate in two consecutive elections.
