MANILA, Philippines — The La Nia phenomenon in the country is already weakening, which means less rains and anormal weather may be expected by May, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday.
La Nia, the counterpart of El Nio, is characterized by below-normal sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean near the equator — a result of shifting wind patterns in the atmosphere.
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja explained that with La Nia, rain clouds or cyclones are more prone to develop thus there is more occurrence of rain.
