ONE Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate foundation and social development arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has energized a rooftop solar system at Libis Elementary School in Antipolo City, Rizal.

The rooftop solar system, which was installed in partnership with B&M Global Services Manila, is set to benefit over 200 students and teachers, OMF said in a statement on Tuesday.

The newly installed solar photovoltaic system powers the school’s facilities, computers, and multimedia equipment.

“With this solar panel, we can now ensure continuous learning even during rainy days, and we can teach our learners the value of renewable energy and environmental care,” school principal Jinky Martinez said.

Meralco employees also chipped in through the Meralco Employees Fund for Charity, Inc. by donating multimedia tools including a television set, a printer, a laptop, and a speaker.

“OMF’s partnership with B&M Global Services Manila demonstrates how shared commitment can break down barriers, giving our young learners the tools they need to dream bigger and reach their full potential,” OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao said.

OMF has energized 309 off-grid public schools nationwide under its School Electrification Program.

Meralco’s controlling stakeholder, Beacon Electric Asset Holdings, Inc., is partly owned by PLDT Inc.

Hastings Holdings, Inc., a unit of PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund subsidiary MediaQuest Holdings, Inc., has an interest in BusinessWorld through the Philippine Star Group, which it controls. — Sheldeen Joy Talavera
