MEGAWORLD Corp. is teaming up with De La Salle University (DLSU) to establish a data science institute, which will offer research-based graduate and undergraduate programs as well as training and professional courses.

Named after the listed property company’s chairman and chief executive, the Dr. Andrew L. Tan Data Science Institute (ALTDSI) aims to “train the next generation work force of data scientists, particularly professionals in the BPO (business process outsourcing) industry.”

DLSU said in a Facebook post on Monday that the institute was launched via a virtual ceremony on July 21.

Megaworld Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Andrew L. Tan was quoted as saying: “There is a huge demand for knowledge outsource professionals who can help businesses and industries grow exponentially. This partnership with DLSU to build the ALTDSI is just the first step in tapping into this huge potential.”

Megaworld officers joined members of the DLSU Board of Trustees, school administrators, and other university personalities.

Aside from a signed memorandum of agreement, DLSU President Raymundo B. Suplido and Megaworld Chairman Mr. Tan exchanged glass plaques “to formalize the agreement.”

The ALTDSI will be located at Megaworld’s McKinley Hill Cyberpark development in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Megaworld will be donating the facilities for the institute, while DLSU faculty-researchers and visiting professors will be heading the program.

ALTDSI will be offering programs focused on “human capacity building” and “value creation.”

The goal of the institute is to contribute to the growth of different business sectors to help the country become the ASEAN region’s leading data science hub.
