MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) was seen east of Luzon, but state meteorologists say that it is not expected to progress as a tropical depression due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.
Weather forecasts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday afternoon showed that the LPA was last seen 265 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.
Cold winds brought by the northeast monsoon would prevent the LPA from progressing further as tropical cyclones need warm air — not cold air — to intensify. Nevertheless, it is still expected to bring rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora province and Quezon on Friday morning….
