KYOTO — The cedar tree-lined approach of Kamo Jinja shrine in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, has been enjoying some social media buzz because of comments likening it to a fantastical path leading to another world.
The shrine was established more than 1,000 years ago.
After walking up the stone pathway toward the shrine — about 150 steps — visitors are treated to a surreal view behind them. The approach, shrouded in cedar trees, features a pair of komainu guardian dog statues, stone lanterns and a torii gate deep in the background.
