COTABATO CITY — A priest and long-time peace advocate succumbed to cardiac arrest on Sunday, a complication of COVID-19.
Fr. Eliseo Mercado Jr., Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), a known peace advocate who tirelessly worked for peace in Mindanao, died at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday at the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC), his colleagues at the OMI announced. He was 72.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fr. Eliseo Mercado Jr., OMI,” Fr. Amador Castillo, OMI, announced.
Mercado, a senior member of the OMI, was the third priest in the Archdiocese of Cotabato to succumb to complications brought about by COVID-19.
