DFA exec asks ASEAN: Uphold UNCLOS in maritime-related talks

MANILA, Philippines — An official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has urged member-states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to uphold the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas (UNCLOS) whenever discussing maritime-related issues.

DFA Assistant Secretary and ASEAN Philippines Director General Junever Mahilum-West issued this call at the 10th ASEAN Maritime Forum (AMF) and 8th Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum (EAMF) on Tuesday, noting the significance of supporting the UNCLOS as a legal framework for ocean activities.
