STAYING together.
That was how the College of St. Benilde (CSB) Blazers have kept afloat and atop Group A of NCAA Season 102 and they hope to stay that way as they battle the sinking San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R) Stags on Monday at the Filoil Centre.
CSB reclaimed the No. 1 spot in its bracket after an 81-79 overtime triumph over University of Perpetual Help System Delta last Thursday and a win over SSC-R, which is eyeing a first win after absorbing five straight defeats, in their 3 p.m. duel would keep it that way.
“The most important thing is to stick to one another and stay together,” said CSB coach Paolo Layug, who has taken over the reins from now team consultant Charles Tiu.
SSC-R would be the second Group B squad CSB is taking on as Arellano University (AU), Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College come in next before the Blazers play four more against their own bracket before the tough elimination round ends.
And Mr. Layug knows every win counts.
Meanwhile, defending champion San Beda University renews its old, raging rivalry with Letran as the two face off at 5 p.m.
The Red Lions are currently in the middle of the pack in Group A with a 3-2 card while the Letran Knights are No. 2 in Group B.
A win for San Beda would push it closer to No. 2 Jose Rizal University (3-1) while a triumph for Letran would catapult it to joint first with AU (4-1). — Joey Villar
