DAGUPAN CITY —- The city government on Thursday released more than 1,000 bangus (milkfish) fingerlings in Dawel River and turned over 60,000 more to selected fisherfolk from several island villages.
Mayor Brian Lim said the activity was a “simple gesture” of celebrating the annual Bangus Festival, which was canceled again because of the pandemic.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources donated the fry and the fingerlings, Lim told the Inquirer.
It was the second time that the festival was canceled, but Lim said he was hopeful that the festival would resume “when things get better.”
“As of now, let us be vigilant, safe, and follow health protocols,” he said.
