THE REBISCO women’s team fell to hometown bet Nakhon Ratchasima in straight sets, 25-11, 25-19, 25-18, in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on Monday in Thailand.
The Thais were not to be denied a spot in the next round, making quick work of the Philippine side in the first two sets. They were better challenged by Rebisco in the third frame but eventually were able to extricate themselves midway en route to the victory.
Karina Krause, Chatchu-on Moksri and Kuttika Kaewpin led the way for Nakhon, which is to face the winner of the other quarterfinal match between Supreme Chonburi also of Thailand and Choco Mucho of the Philippines later on Monday.
The semifinals is set for Wednesday at the Terminal 21 Hall.
The loss was the fourth straight in as many matches for Rebisco, composed of national team pool members and handled by Brazilian consultant-coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito. It is now relegated to the classification matches.
The team is composed of Aby Maraño, Eya Laure, Jema Galanza, Faith Nisperos, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Majoy Baron, Kim Kianna Dy, Mhicaela Belen, Imee Hernandez, Ivy Lacsina, Rhea Dimaculangan, Kamille Cal, Jennifer Nierva, and Bernadette Pepito.
The Rebisco and Choco Mucho teams were assembled by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), which is using the tournament as part of its push to shore up its national team program. — Michael Angelo S. Murillo
