OPPOSITION COALITION 1Sambayan on Thursday said it is still open to supporting a potential presidential run by former senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV, as other administration critics have announced their bid for the presidency.

Mr. Trillanes on Thursday said that his party Magdalo is “prepared”  to “fill in the gaps” should Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo decline to run for president next year.

“Sen. Trillanes is still in the list of 1Sambayan’s presidentiables. The coalition is having its survey among its members and the good senator’s name is still in the list,” 1Sambayan spokesman Joseph Peter “JP” Calleja said by telephone.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Trillanes pressed Ms. Robredo to immediately declare a presidential run, saying those who have already announced their bids for the 2022 elections do not represent the “true opposition.”

On Wednesday, Ms. Robredo’s spokesman Ibarra M. Guttierez said the opposition leader will announce her candidacy “in due time.”

Mr. Trillanes was among the six vice presidential candidates in 2016, which Ms. Robredo won. — Kyle Aristophere T. Atienza
