Philippines gets first 1.6 million doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 jab

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Friday received its first batch of 1.6 million doses of the single-shot COVID-19 vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson (J&J).

The aircraft carrying 1,606,600 J&J vaccine doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport past 4 p.m.

The United States government donated these shots through the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility.

Another 1.6 million doses of the same vaccine brand are expected to arrive on Saturday, July 17.

The Philippines has administered over 14 million doses of various COVID-19 vaccines, and has so far fully vaccinated at least four million individuals.
