Briones suggests face-to-face classes if teachers, children get vaccinated by August

MANILA, Philippines — Conducting pilot face-to-face classes amid the pandemic may be reconsidered if students and teachers have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 by August, Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones said Wednesday.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier rejected DepEd’s bid to resume in-person classes, considering that most of the population have not yet been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, especially children, who are not in the government’s priority for vaccination.

However, Briones said vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. gave the assurance that the government will try to inoculate children “at particular ages,” as well as their teachers, by August….
