Philippine-born, raised and trained, former University of the Philippines (UP) standout and Gilas Pilipinas cadet Javi Gomez de Liao is the latest blue-chip talent headed to the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Ibaraki Robots of the Japanese B.League announced the signing of Gomez de Liao on Monday afternoon, just 12 days after his brother, Juan, said he is also turning pro in Japan.
“I’d like to thank coach Richard (Glesmann) and Robots management for giving me this opportunity of [a] lifetime,” the 22-year-old guard said in a statement published on the team’s website. “At the same time, I can’t wait to play for you guys and meet the amazing community out there.”
