MANILA, Philippines — The government may study the proposed scrapping of the face shield policy during this pandemic only when the country’s vaccination coverage has improved, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III told senators on Tuesday.

But Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III wants the government to start the study now.

At Tuesday’s hearing of the Senate Committee of the Whole, Sotto asked government officials present if they have considered “discontinuing” the use of face shields, noting that the Philippines is the only country in the world mandating its use.
