Expect rotational brownouts as NGCP places Luzon grid on red alert

MANILA, Philippines — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed on red alert the Luzon grid, including Metro Manila, indicating the possibility of rotational brownouts throughout the region.

The NGCP said, in an advisory, that the Luzon grid will be on red alert starting at 2 p.m. and will last until 4 p.m., after which, the Luzon grid will be placed on yellow alert from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Being under red alert means thatthere are zero ancillary services or insufficient power supply in the grid, while yellow alert means there is low power reserves due to high electricity demand.
