COVID-19 death toll in PH inches closer to 20,000 mark

MANILA, Philippines — The number of people who died due to COVID-19 in the country has moved closer to the 20,000 mark on Saturday with 183 new deaths being reported by the Department of Health (DOH).

According to DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin, the death toll is currently at 19,946, or 1.69 percent of the 1.178 million cases recorded in the country.

From May 15 up to Saturday, May 22, the country has recorded 1,010 deaths or around 126 deaths per day.

This is higher than the previous seven-day rolling average, which was at 118 deaths per day.
