SAN ANTONIO, Zambales —- Following a surge in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases among employees of the Department of Education in this province, the schools’ division superintendent said he has taken “full responsibility [for] the situation.”

“I plea the public to give us time to do immediate actions to ensure that all employees will be safe and provide support to all who are affected,” Leonardo Zapanta said in a statement Monday.

At least 49 DepEd employees had contracted COVID-19 during two separate seminars organized for school heads in Zambales this month.

Seven workers of a resort that hosted one of the seminars had also tested positive for the virus.
