MANILA, Philippines — The chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday confirmed that there was a third fatality in the shootout between its agents and police officers near a mall in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City a day before.
“Tatlong kagawad ng gobyerno ang namatay while they are performing their duties (Three government agents died while they were performing their duties),” PDEA Director-General Wilkins Villanueva said in a joint media briefing with the PNP.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. earlier confirmed that two police officers died during the shootout, which he described as a “misencounter.”
