No shift to MGCQ sans Covid-19 vaccine rollout

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has thumbed down the proposed shift of the entire Philippines to the most lenient quarantine status while there is still no vaccine rollout, his long-time aide said Monday.

“No vaccine roll out, no MGCQ [modified general community quarantine] muna – prrd [President Rodrigo Roa Duterte],” Senator Christopher “Bong” Go told reporters in a message.

Acting socioeconomic planning Secretary Karl Chua earlier recommended placing the country under MGCQ to mitigate poverty and income loss amid the pandemic.

Metro Manila mayors and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases also agreed to place the country under MGCQ.
