DILG orders cops, LGUs to identify, arrest thieves of power line cables

MANILA, Philippines — Police and local government units were directed to go after individuals stealing power cables and using illegal jumpers to ensure “continued electric service” for consumers, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Saturday.

“We received reports on the theft of power cables and rampant use of illegal jumpers, especially in informal settler communities. We have therefore directed the PNP and LGUs to work with EDUs [electric distribution utilities] in pinning down power thieves who illegally use electricity or commit theft of electric power transmission lines and materials,” DILG Officer-in-Charge Bernardo FloreceJr. said in a statement…
