MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook the region of Soccsksargen on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Based on the initial earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor hit 11 kilometers (kms) northeast of Alabel, Sarangani at 7:22 a.m.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 54 kms.
The quake was also felt as Intensity V in General Santos City; Intensity IV in Kiamba, Sarangani, Tupi and Koronadal City, South Cotabato; and
Intensity III in Alabel, Sarangani and Kidapawan City
State seismologists warned the public that aftershocks and damage are expected from the earthquake.
