MANILA, Philippines— More than three million eligible voters may not be able to register for next year’s elections based on the only 1,000 daily new registrants recorded by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon issued this warning after learning during Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio’s confirmation hearing at the Senate on Wednesday that the poll body was catering to only more than 1,000 new voters a day.

Ferolino-Ampoloquio said Comelec is targeting to register 7.2 million new voters before the registration period ends on September 30.
