NEW NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the private operator of the country’s main gateway, saw higher passenger traffic at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) during the Undas travel period.
In a media release on Thursday, NNIC said passenger traffic at NAIA jumped 4.4% year on year to 1.29 million, exceeding initial forecast.
NNIC said international traffic accounted for most of the passenger volume at 649,691, up 3.94% from 625,056 a year earlier, while domestic traffic rose 4.86% to 642,194 from 612,419.
The company said it logged the highest volume of passengers on Oct. 30 with 153,901 passengers passing through the airport.
“NNIC had initially projected a conservative 1% increase for the Undas travel period, compared with the same period in 2025,” it said.
NNIC said that it has strengthened coordination with airlines, ground handlers, transport providers to prepare for the expected surge in passengers.
NNIC said it had also set up a 24-hour command center at Terminal 2 for coordinated operations and incident responses within the airport.
“NNIC said it continues to improve passenger processing, terminal access, and airport facilities as NAIA accommodates growing travel demand,” it said. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
