Six muslim rebels surrender in Marawi

KAMPO RANAO, Marawi City: Six members of the Dawlah Islamiya terrorist group surrendered in Lanao del Sur recently. Maj. Gen. Generroso Ponio, commanding general of the First Infantry (Tabak) Division said the campaign against terrorism also relies on the cooperation and development of the local government units, datus, ulamas (religious leaders) and residents. “We can defeat terrorism by whole-of-nation approach, trusting and helping each other [in order] that our future generations will inherit the just and lasting peace,” Ponio said in an issued statement. He added that the government remained committed in its Community Support Program to Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism campaign. He further affirmed that the government has programs for former violent extremist members, who choose to lay down their arms and return to the fold of the law.
