SOME of the country’s best tankers will converge at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) Swimming Pool for the 2022 Philippine Swimming, Inc. (PSI) National Open (PNO) scheduled on Feb. 25 to 27.
PSI president Lailani Velasco said the three-day meet would stake spots to the national team seeing action in international competitions including the Hanoi Southeast Asian (SEA) Games set on May 12 to 23.
“The PNO will serve as a qualifying meet for various international events, most notably the coming 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam this May,” said Mr. Velasco.
It will be the first time the pool center will be used in a national competition since its renovation three years ago.
It will also usher in the opening of the government-owned sports facilities since it was closed down two years ago due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The event will be held at the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Swimming Pool, which underwent a massive renovation that began in 2019,” said Mr. Velasco. “What better way to inaugurate the now international-grade swimming facility than by having our elite athletes get a first taste at it.”
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is bankrolling the three-day event, which will be done in strict bubble format. — Joey Villar
