MALACAÑANG has extended alternative work setup in government offices and learning modes in public and private schools in the National Capital Region and 17 provinces for Aug. 20 due to continued heavy rains from the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Memorandum Circular No. 131, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto, covers the National Capital Region, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Occidental Mindoro.

Agencies providing basic and health services, and disaster preparedness and response are exempt. Contract of service and job order workers under alternative arrangements will continue receiving their salaries or payments under existing rules.

Local chief executives may suspend classes and work outside covered areas, while private employers may decide on work suspensions, the memorandum read.
