BIFF member killed in Maguindanao clash

A member of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was killed during an armed encounter in Datu Hoffer town in Maguindanao, the military reported on Thursday.

Based on the report of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), the slain BIFF member was identified as “Nasser Kandao.”

According to Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the (WestMinCom), the troops of the Limpongo Patrol Base were conducting checkpoint operations when they encountered about 10 members of the BIFF on Wednesday.

The 45-minute clash resulted in the death of Kandao, while a member of the Civilian Active Auxillary (CAA) was wounded on his left leg.

The unidentified CAA member was rushed to IPHO Maguindanao for immediate medical treatment, the report added.

Lt. Col. Cresencio Sanchez, Jr., commander, 1st Mechanized Battalion, said that supplemental troops were deployed to the scene of the firefight.

Recovered were an M16 rifle, one XRM motorcycle, and two short magazines.
