THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) assured on Saturday the police, who organized a gathering in Olongapo City, would face charges over alleged violations of health protocols.

According to DILG spokesman and Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, Cpl. Randy Baltero would be held liable for violating the protocols of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Based on the photo sent to him, Malaya said the reported gathering, held along Labrador Street, clearly had many violations, including the failure of attendees to wear face masks and face shields.

There was also a failure to implement physical distancing at the gathering, Malaya added.

“The DILG will hold [Baltero] liable. We will file [the] appropriate case,” Malaya said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

Malaya said enforcers and those in authority should be the first ones to observe heath protocols.

“How could we make our countrymen obey if the people in authority are the ones violating the protocols,” Malaya pointed out.
