LEGAL assistance is being secured for Filipinos injured by a bus crash on the A96 highway of Germany, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt (PCG Frankfurt) said on Thursday.

DMW Undersecretary Jainal T. Rasul, Jr., Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan, and the Migrant Worker Office’s Berlin Labor Attaché Delia Palomar are coordinating with German authorities for the investigation into the accident and the other necessary legal actions, according to a statement.

The bus was en route from Milan to Munich for the annual Oktoberfest beer festival, when it veered off the A96 motorway and overturned near Buchloe. Thirty-five people were onboard, composed of 33 passengers and 2 drivers.

Two Filipinos, one an overseas worker, died in the crash. Seventeen passengers were seriously injured and received emergency treatment in hospitals across Munich and Bavaria.

The remaining 14 passengers sustained minor injuries treated by the Red Cross.

The DFA confirmed that 29 of the injured Filipinos have been discharged and transported back to Milan, while two remain hospitalized. — Francessca S. Abalos
