STORM SIGNAL No. 2 was raised over parts of Luzon as Tropical Storm Maymay, internationally known as Kujira, threatened to bring strong winds and heavy rains, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.

The storm was 145 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur at 4 p.m. and was expected to make landfall over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur or La Union on Wednesday night or early Thursday. It may weaken into a tropical depression while crossing Northern and Central Luzon.

The government suspended work and classes in Metro Manila, Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan and Zambales starting 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The weather bureau also warned of waves reaching 5 meters along parts of the Ilocos and Pangasinan coasts. — Erika Mae P. Sinaking and Edg Adrian A. Eva
