THE NOMINATION of Rey E. Bulay as election commissioner has been confirmed by the Commission on Appointments.
Mr. Bulay, the chief prosecutor of Manila and was a commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government in 2016, will take the spot vacated by retired Commissioner Luie Tito Guia.
Mr. Bulay was nominated by President Rodrigo R. Duterte, his fraternity brother, in early November. He is now the 6th Duterte appointee among the seven Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioners.
His term in the Comelec will expire in Feb. 2027.
He also served as a Muntinlupa City councilor from 1988 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2010, and became president of the Councilors League of the Philippines. — Alyssa Nicole O. Tan
