PETALING JAYA: The world No. 5 Mixed Doubles Pair, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying have informed BAM that they are ready for the national team call-up for the Sudirman Cup mixed team championship from May 19-26 in Nanning, China
The pair are no longer with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). They are now awaiting for a decision by the BAM.
BAM have the option to stick to their current mixed doubles line-up, where they have three established pairs – world No. 9 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie, Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei (No. 38) and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing (No. 39).
Teams were seeded based on the cumulative ranking points of their highest-ranked players and pairs (as of March 5) in all the five categories.
Malaysia are in the 12-nation top division where Japan, China and Indonesia are the top-three seeded teams. The other teams are Taiwan, defending champions South Korea, Denmark, Thailand, India, Hong Kong and Russia.
Each nation is allowed to name a maximum 20 players in Sudirman Cup – hence there are spots to accommodate two mixed doubles pairs.
Malaysia have never won the Sudirman Cup since its inception in 1989
