Vice President Leni Robredo is ready to assist in the efforts of the war against illegal drugs, but she will not permit herself to become a victim of the government’s failures, said her spokesperson on Friday.
He said it was the Duterte administration that made an unrealistic promise to end crime and drugs in six months, “and if they are now called to account for their failure to deliver, they should not blame VP Leni for that.”
As early as 2016, Gutierrez said VP Robredo had tried to work with the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government and other agencies to make suggestions on how to strengthen the government’s efforts to counter illegal drugs.
Gutierrez said it was tragic that on the eve of one of the holiest days of the Filipinos, President Rodrigo Duterte unleashed another tirade against the Vice President, a time of family and prayer.
Duterte said that if Robredo accepted his offer to be an anti-drug czar, he would swear to her as a cabinet member and grant her power over the government’s drug war.
