The Philippine Coast Guard has evacuated fishing boats from the San Nicholas, Batangas section of Taal Lake, to prevent people from slipping past the safety cordons.
Some residents of the town used the boats to get through unnoticed by guards at checkpoints around the lake.
Likewise, officials said withdrawing the boats from the lake was a way to keep them in good condition before people are allowed to return, adding that some of the boats were put along the road in safe areas.
But heightened Taal activities forced coastguard personnel at noon on Saturday to stop their lake-clearing efforts.
As of Saturday, the eruption of Taal Volcano last January 12 affected 348,563 people in the provinces of Batangas, Quezon, Laguna, and Cavite according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Of that number, there are 137,994 people staying in 448 evacuation centers.
Thanks to the volcano’s renewed operation, the coast guard also was unable to move animals out of the lockout areas.
