Thursday, Malacañang expressed hopes that in the future, Filipinos will appreciate China.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo issued the statement after the results of Wednesday’s third-quarter survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) indicated that China remains the least trusted country among Filipinos with a net trust rating of -33.
Panelo said the Palace was not shocked by the perception of China by the Filipinos, adding that it was “predictable and understandable” given the maritime conflict in the West Philippine Sea between Manila and Beijing.
The official at the Palace said that Malacañang was not going to court or pressure any person to change their feelings against China.
According to the SWS, net confidence has been positive in China since the first poll in August 1994 in just nine out of 51 surveys.
China’s highest net confidence score in June 2010 was + 17, while the lowest in September 2015 was -46.
