Davao Del Sur was among the provinces that had been struck by a powerful earthquake back in July, and some of the buildings that had been torn down were universities.
In order to prepare for the next tremor, students at the Salud Cagas Technical and Vocational High School built their own helmets using nothing but coconut husks and a piece of the garter.
This was after the school turned the simple idea of teacher Dennis Sabad into a school project. On the Unang Balita report by John Consulta, Dennis explained that their community did not have a lot of funding for additional disaster equipment. The town, however, was rich in coconut trees.
